Jailah Channer won the high jump, sophomore
Sydney Carr captured the triple jump, and freshman
Ciara Joyner-Plata topped the podium in the 100-meter dash to help VCU women's track & field begin the 2023 outdoor campaign in winning style.
SPRINTS
- Joyner-Plata's winning time in the 100m was 12.55. She also competed in the 200m, placing seventh overall in that event in a time of 25.90
HURDLES
- In addition to her high jump victory, Channer finished runner-up in the 100-meter hurdles, breaking the tape in 16.04 in windy conditions
DISTANCE
- Redshirt freshman Lauren Tunnell finished fourth overall in the 800m, completing the two laps in a time of 2:13.57
- Freshman Ava Miller was the top Ram in the 1500m, crossing the line in 4:54.05. Fellow freshman Jayanna Carroll was right behind her at 4:54.57

JUMPS
- In the high jump, Channer cleared the bar at 1.55m (5'-1") on her winning jump. Freshman Mariah Washington had a clearance of 1.50m (4'-11") in her first collegiate outdoor meet
- Carr claimed the triple jump with a mark of 11.34m (37'-02.50). Sophomore Megan Bozarth also placed well in the event, finishing fourth
