SECOND QUARTER SURGE FUELS RAMS’ 14-8 VICTORY OVER ODU

The Short Story: VCU, powered by a six-goal second quarter, pulled away from the Monarchs before halftime and led 10-3 at the break. VCU then held off visiting ODU's attempted third quarter rally for the win.

  • Kelsey McDonnell led the Rams in scoring again with five goals
  • Juliana George contributed four goals, three of which came in less than a minute of action in the second quarter
  • Savannah Slack found the back of the net three times while Mia George tacked on two goals

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Rams got out to an early 4-1 lead in the opening minutes thanks to two goals from Slack
  • ODU's Siskind scored a free position goal with one second left in the first quarter to cut VCU's lead to 4-2 
  • The Black and Gold pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring ODU 6-1 over that period, including a 5-0 scoring run spanning the final 6:53 of the first half to take a 10-3 halftime lead
  • During that stretch George scored three goals in 54 seconds of game action
  • After a McDonnell goal at 13:07 remaining in the third quarter made it 11-3, ODU went on a 3-0 run to cut the margin to five at 11-6 at the end of the third quarter
  • The two teams traded goals in the fourth quarter and McDonnell capped the scoring with her fifth goal of the game with 2:27 left on the clock
  • ODU got no closer than a four-goal margin in the fourth quarter

VCU travels to Elon this Saturday, Feb. 18. The opening draw is scheduled for noon and the game will be streamed on FloSports.
