The Short Story: VCU had a 19-point lead cut to 54-48 entering the fourth quarter but the Rams immediately answered with a 6-0 run and pulled away for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Mykel Parham tied her career high with 14 rebounds along with nine points
  • Jennifer Ezeh had a career-high 12 points and eight rebounds
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had a team-high 18 points while Timaya Lewis-Eutsey poured in 15 points
  • Nine Rams scored in the contest
  • VCU outrebounded Sacred Heart 46-22 overall and led 22-3 in second chance points
  • The Rams shot 44.2 percent from the floor while the Pioneers shot 37 percent

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU trailed Sacred Heart 5-0 early before a Te-Biasu 3-pointer sparked the Rams' offense, outscoring the Pioneers 10-5 to lead 20-15 at the end of the quarter
  • The Rams' defense stifled Sacred Heart in the second quarter, outscoring them 18-7 and allowing them to shoot just 1-of-13 from the floor. VCU built a 38-24 halftime lead off its defense
  • The Pioneers attempted a comeback in the third quarter, using a 15-3 run to get within 46-39 with 4:47 left in the third quarter. VCU had led by as many as 19 points in the quarter
  • The scored remained close heading into the fourth quarter with the Rams leading 54-48
  • Sacred Heart fouled Parham on a shot with 8:33 left before being assessed a technical foul. The play helped VCU to a 6-0 run to push its lead back to double digits at 60-48
  • The Rams led by double digits for the remainder of the contest and cruised to the win
