The Short Story: VCU used a 15-2 run early in the second quarter to pull away for the easy win. The Rams finished the Discover San Juan Classic a perfect 3-0.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • VCU allowed its fewest points in a game since allowing 20 points to Maryland-Eastern Shore during the 1994-95 season. It's the seventh-fewest points VCU has ever allowed in a game
  • Mary-Anna Asare had a game-high 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting while playing just 22 minutes
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had eight points, four rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes
  • Samantha Robinson had seven points and a team-high seven rebounds. Valentina Ojeda grabbed six boards in the game
  • The Rams shot 41.8 percent for the game while Puerto Rico shot just 23.2 percent
  • The Rams held a 22-7 advantage in points off turnovers and won the rebounding battle 56-26 overall
  • VCU also led in bench points 39-11 as a season-high 12 Rams scored in the contest
  • Puerto Rico was led by Gabriela Ortega who had 11 points and four rebounds
     
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Te-Biasu hit a 3-pointer on VCU's first possession and the Rams went on a 13-4 run to begin the game with 3:59 left in the first quarter
  • Puerto Rico went on an 8-1 spanning the first and second quarters to cut the VCU lead to 14-13 with 9:55 left in the second quarter
  • Asare got her own rebound and made a layup to start a 15-3 run to close the half and VCU led 29-15 at the break
  • The Rams opened the second half on an 11-2 run with back-to-back 3-pointers from Deniz Torgut. The run gave VCU a 43-17 lead with 6:15 left in the third quarter
  • VCU led by as many as 42 points in the second half in the win
