The short story:Â Redshirt sophomore guard
Jason Nelson poured in 19 points and VCU held Radford to just four second-half field goals in a convincing win Wednesday night at the Siegel Center.
OPENING TIP
- Nelson ignited VCU's offense in the first half and finished two points off his career scoring high. He knocked down 7-of-10 attempts from the field in the game, including 4-of-5 from 3-point range
- Senior guard Zeb Jackson stuffed the stat sheet again Wednesday for the Rams. He booked 17 points, five assists, four rebounds and a pair of steals
- Sophomore forward Tobi Lawal recorded his first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Black and Gold. The London, England native connected on 6-of-10 attempts at the free throw line and threw down a pair of thunderous alley-oop dunks
- Kenyon Giles led Radford with 19 points

- VCU held Radford to 18 percent (4-of-22) shooting in the second half. The Highlanders misfired on seven of nine 3-point attempts in the half
- The Rams embarked on a game-changing 15-0 run early in the second half behind its defense. VCU held the Highlanders without a field goal for nearly nine minutes during that stretch, while Jackson and Lawal provided four points each
- VCU also shot 58 percent (14-of-24) from the field in the second half. The Rams converted 13-of-18 attempts inside the arc
- VCU knocked down 19-of-26 free throw attempts
- The Black and Gold forced 17 turnovers and outscored the Highlanders 20-10 off miscues
