Biography

THE BASICS
  • Transfer from Louisville who will have two years of eligibility remaining
  • Rugged post player who was ranked No. 60 nationally in the class of 2021 by 247Sports' composite rankings
  • Owns a 7-foot-3 wingspan
  • Initially chose to attend Louisville after narrowing his options to also include LSU, NC State and VCU
SOPHOMORE (2022-23)
  • Appeared in 25 games, averaging 1.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in 8.7 minutes per contest
  • Tallied four points and four rebounds in 19 minutes off the bench vs. North Carolina on Jan. 14
  • Scored season-high five points with four boards against Maryland on Nov. 29
  • Grabbed career-high eight rebounds, including six offensive, in 19 minutes off the bench against Bellarmine on Nov. 9
FRESHMAN (2021-22)
  • Backup at center for multiple games, averaging nearly seven minutes a game on the court in his 21 appearances.  He scored in 10 games and had multiple rebounds in five contests.
  • Scored a career-best eight points vs. Western Kentucky (4-of-4 FGs) and had six points against Southeastern Louisiana
  • Suffered a concussion against Duke and missed the next two games. He returned to play at Notre Dame on Feb. 9.
  • Delighted Louisville fans in his debut against Navy with three points and three rebounds in nine minutes for his first court time this year. He scored four points against Maryland.
PRIOR TO COLLEGE
  • Averaged 15.8 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.3 blocked shots as a junior in 2019-20 as one of five John Marshall High School players who averaged double figures in scoring.  He helped his team achieve a 23-2 record and the 2020 Virginia 2A state championship, John Marshall’s second state title in his three years there
  • Wheeler did not have a senior season due to Richmond Public Schools canceling winter sports due to the pandemic and due to an Achilles injury
  • A First Team All-State and All-Region selection in 2019-20, Wheeler ranked No. 43 nationally by Rivals.com, 69th in the 247Sports.com composite rankings and No. 82 in the ESPN 100
  • Known as “Big Rose,” Wheeler grew up in Atlanta before moving to Hampton, Va. in August of 2016. He moved to Richmond in 2017 and as a freshman, came off the bench to help John Marshall win the Virginia state 3A championship
  • In Wheeler’s sophomore year, John Marshall fell in overtime in the semifinals of the 3A state championship during its 21-5 season before the school moved to Class 2A for the 2019-20 season
  • Starred for Team Loaded AAU Virginia squad produced a perfect 40-0 record during the summer of 2018, won the Adidas Gauntlet Championship and was the top-ranked 15U team in the nation
