RAMS FALL TO 18TH-RANKED FLYERS

The short story: Senior middle blocker Jasmine Knight recorded eight kills and three blocks for VCU, which fell to nationally ranked Dayton Friday night.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Knight hit .286 on 14 tries for the Black and Gold
  • Junior outside hitter Kialah Jefferson registered a team-high nine kills for VCU
  • Junior opposite Parker Hartzell kicked in eight kills and a block for the Rams, while freshman libero Anja Kujundzic provided 15 digs and an ace from the back row
  • Lexie Almodovar led the Flyers with a match-high 18 kills
THE DIFFERENCE
  • Dayton hit .236, compared to VCU's .119 mark
  • The Flyers also owned an 11-6 advantage in blocks
  • The Rams were able to hit above .200 in just the second set
  • VCU threatened in the second when it streaked to a 17-10 lead, a run punctuated by a kill from junior middle blocker Kylie Loftis. But Dayton finished the frame on a 15-3 blitz that included five kills from Almodovar
  • The Rams looked to force a fourth set and took a 22-19 advantage, but Almodovar sparked a 7-2 Flyer burst with three kills to close the match

VCU and Dayton will meet again on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Frericks Center in the regular-season finale for both clubs. That match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
