Score: Fordham 3, VCU 1 (25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22)
Location: Richmond, Va. (Stuart C. Siegel Center)

The short story: Junior opposite Parker Hartzell and senior middle blocker Jasmine Knight combined for 26 kills and eight blocks, but it wasn't enough to lift VCU past Fordham Sunday afternoon.

OPENING VOLLEY
  • Hartzell spiked 14 kills and hit .270 on 37 attempts for the Black and Gold. She added a pair of blocks
  • Knight supplied 12 kills and six blocks in the match for VCU, while junior outside hitter Kialah Jefferson added 10 kills and 16 digs
  • On the back row, freshman libero Anja Kujundzic contributed 29 digs and an ace for VCU
  • Zoe Talabong led all players Sunday with 17 kills for Fordham
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU hit .216 in Saturday's win over Fordham, but the Black and Gold were held to a .139 mark on Sunday
  • Fordham sprinted to a 15-9 lead in the first set on the way to a 25-22 win. VCU found itself looking up at a 2-0 hole after dropping the second set 25-18. Fordham never trailed in the second after taking a 15-8 lead behind Talabong, who recorded five kills in the frame
  • VCU hit .341 in the third on the way to a 25-18 win and grabbed an 18-14 advantage in the fourth. But Fordham closed the match with an 11-4 run, sparked by three kills from Whitley Moody
NOTABLE
  • VCU's six-match win streak was stopped by Sunday's loss
  • Knight's six blocks Sunday give her 368 for her career and move her within 10 of passing current VCU Assistant Coach Cecilia Blanchard for sixth on VCU's career list
NEXT UP
VCU has concluded its five-match homestand and will hit the road for a pair of contests at Rhode Island Oct. 14-15 in Kingston, R.I.
