The short story: Middle blocker Jasmine Knight celebrated her Senior Day by joining a historic club, and junior opposite Parker Hartzell supplied 13 kills in a VCU sweep Sunday.

OPENING VOLLEY
  • Knight recorded four kills and four blocks, and became just the fourth Ram in VCU history to reach 400 career blocks. She joins former Black and Gold standouts Jasmin Sneed (692), Tori Baldwin (519) and Kelsie Clegg (434) atop VCU's all-time list
  • Hartzell hit .440 in the match on 25 attempts for the Rams
  • Junior outside hitter Kialah Jefferson provided nine kills, 12 digs and a career-high six service aces
  • Ewelina Gacek paced the Patriots with seven kills and two blocks
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU outhit George Mason .253-.065. The Rams hit better than .250 in all three sets
  • The Rams recorded seven blocks and outdug the Patriots 42-34
  • George Mason took early leads in all three sets, only to watch the Rams assume control and not look back. The Patriots' biggest threat came in the first, when they jumped out to an 11-5 advantage. But VCU's MaKenzie Chambers converted three straight kills in a 5-0 run to trim the deficit to one. Later, Hartzell sparked a 9-0 burst with a pair of kills as the Rams charged ahead 20-15 on the way to a 25-20 win
NOTABLE
  • VCU has won 16 of its past 19 matches against George Mason
  • The Black and Gold matched their win total from a year ago with Sunday's victory
  • The Rams improved to 11-3 in A-10 play with just two regular season weekends remaining. VCU sits firmly in third place, four games ahead of Fordham and Davidson
  • Sunday marked the Rams' final home game of the season, and VCU honored its six seniors in a pregame ceremony
NEXT UP
VCU will hit the road to face George Washington Nov. 4-5 in Washington, D.C. Saturday's match will serve at 4 p.m.
