RAMS THUMP CENTRAL MICHIGAN TO CLOSE OUT REGULAR SEASON

The Short Story: Behind two goals and an assist from Josephine Jense, VCU Field Hockey cruised to a 6-1 victory over Central Michigan to bring the regular season to a close

QUICK FACTS:

  • The victory was the second in a row for the Rams, and the third straight against Central Michigan
  • VCU dominated on both sides of the field, outshooting Central Michigan 22-3 and 15-3 in SOG
  • Jense led the Rams with two goals and an assist, followed by Mora Marrero and Morena Macera with five shots and three SOG each.
  • VCU began the game on an offensive burst, scoring three goals in the opening period by Macera, Josefina Ventimiglia, and Georgia Carr-Brown
  • The goals for Ventimiglia and Carr-Brown were their second of the season for each.
  • Sheridan Messier made the start in goal for the Rams
  • VCU did not allow a shot until the end of the third period, saved by Julia Cook who started in goal for the second half, making two saves

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Macera got it going early with the first goal of the game off a penalty corner in just the third minute, her eighth of the season.
  • Macera's goal was assisted by Sally Snead, her third of the season
  • Ventimiglia followed Macera's goal closely, scoring the next point of the game in the fourth minute on a run in from the end line.
  • Carr-Brown took it in from the top of the circle in the 12th minute for the third goal of the game.
  • Skyler Padgett began the second period with her sixth goal of the season, assisted by Jense
  • Jense weaved through the defense in the 23rd minute for her first goal of the game to make it 5-0 at the break
  • Manuela Secondo then recorded her first assist of the season for Jense's second goal
  • Central Michigan scored their lone goal of the game off a penalty corner in the 50th minute by Pauline Klep.
