VCU FALLS IN OVERTIME TO NO. 20 UMASS, 3-2

The Short Story: VCU controlled possession of the game, eventually taking a 2-0 lead in the fourth quarter. The No. 20 Minutewomen answered with two goals late to force overtime, eventually taking advantage of a late yellow card to win in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU got control of the game early, outshooting UMass 6-1 in the first quarter but the teams remained tied
  • In the second quarter, the teams didn't pose much of an offensive threat with the Rams outshooting the Minutewomen 3-1
  • Goodowin broke the deadlock in the 41st minute off a penalty corner insert from Mora Marrero. The short corner was hit hard past the goalkeeper
  • The Rams doubled their lead to 2-0 in the 47th minute when Padgett collected a rebound from a Georgia Carr-Brown shot and chipped the goalie from close range
  • UMass answered with two goals, one in the 49th minute and one in the 51st to tie the game at 2-2 and force overtime
  • The Rams began the overtime period down a player and UMass converted in the 63rd minute with a goal from Mali Herberhold
