OPENING TIP
- VCU shot a season-best 15-of-24 from 3-point range in the game, a blistering 63 percent success rate. Shriver's six threes are a season-high, but he wasn't the only hot hand, as sophomore guard Jayden Nunn shot 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, and junior guard Ace Baldwin Jr. connected on 3-of-6
- VCU saw five players score in double figures, including Baldwin Jr., who had a team-leading 19, as well as graduate forward Brandon Johns Jr. (14), Nunn (12) and redshirt sophomore guard Jamir Watkins (10). It's the first time five Rams have scored in double figures since the Rams achieved the feat Feb. 12, 2022 at George Mason
- The Rams showcased their depth as the bench scored 30 points. The team also dished out 20 assists on 32 field goals, led by Baldwin Jr.'s eight.
- VCU made the most of its limited free-throw opportunities, shooting 10-of-11 from the charity stripe.
- Davidson's Sam Mennenga led all scorers with 20 points and shot 8-of-12 on the day.
THE DIFFERENCE
- The Rams found themselves down early as the Wildcats scored ten straight points by the 16:22 mark of the first half. But after a crucial timeout call by VCU head coach Mike Rhoades, the Rams found their stride, going on a 19-4 run thanks to a pair of Shriver threes, bringing their lead to 19-14 with 9:09 left in the first half
- VCU's momentum continued to carry the team through the end of the half as VCU led by 11
- The Rams caught fire starting at the 17:12 mark as four offensive possessions led to four straight three-pointers by Watkins, Shriver, and Nunn. The Rams led by as many as 25 points with 6:27 remaining in the game
- VCU forced 20 turnovers in the contest and outscored Davidson 26-10 off miscues
NOTABLE
- VCU's 15 threes are tied for its most since it bombed 15 against Grambling State here at the Siegel Center on Nov. 10, 2017
- The Rams improve to 10-8 all-time over Davidson
- VCU improved to 10-1 at home this season
