SARVER'S TWO GOALS, BAGLEY'S PENALTY KICK SECURE RAMS VICTORY

The short story: Redshirt junior midfielder Anna Bagley converted an 88th minute penalty kick to give the Rams a 3-2 win over the previously undefeated Panthers.

  • The game-winning goal was Bagley's first of the season and the fifth of her career. She also recorded an assist on the Ram's second goal
  • Freshman midfielder Kendyl Sarver scored a brace in the contest. 
  • The first goal came in the 5th minute 
  • Sophomore forward Kanna Matsuhisa and junior forward Milicia Bulatovic each recorded an assist on Sarver's first goal
  • The second goal came at the 54th minute
  • Sarver now has three goals on the season. Sarver has a team-leading three goals
  • Pitt led VCU overall in shots 27-13 with a 15-6 edge in shots on goal
  • Senior goalkeeper Whitney Horton recorded 13 saves

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a throw-in by Pitt, Bulatovic found Matsuhisa outside the box who cross the ball right on to the head of Sarver who found the back of the net in the 5th minute
  • Pitt struck back in the 25th minute when Leah Pais scored on a pass from Anna Bout
  • Sarver used her head again in the 54th minute, this time scoring off a feed from Bagley's free kick to take the lead 2-1
  • Pitt found their offense again late in the 77th minute when Sarah Schupansky used a crowded box to sneak the ball past the keeper
  • The Rams had the decisive moment in the game after Sarver dribbled near the keeper when she was taken down by a defender and a penalty kick was awarded in the 88th minute. Bagley took the shot for VCU and fired a perfect low-corner shot past the keeper to secure the win
