SARVER'S LATE GOAL TIES RAMS WITH SPARTANS

The short story: Freshman midfielder Kendyl Sarver scored her first career goal in the 87th minute to tie the Spartans 1-1.

 

QUICK FACTS

  • VCU controlled the pace of the game leading the Spartans in shots, 17-5.

  • Junior forward Milicia Bulatovic led the Rams with three shots, two of which were on goal.

  • Senior goalkeeper Whitney Horton recorded three saves.

  • The Rams surrendered no corners to the Spartans, while taking three of their own.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • A free kick by UNCG's Parker Sikora in the 14th minute deflected off a VCU defender and found the back of the net.

  • VCU nearly retaliated in the 44th minute of the match when senior midfielder Sophie Brophy forced a save with a shot on goal.

  • The Rams threatened again in the 83rd minute with back-to-back shots by sophomore midfielder Isidora Gajdobranski and sophomore defender Greta Kraszula.

  • VCU found the back of the net when junior midfielder Aisha Maughn took a free kick from the right flank that was headed home by Sarver.
