RICHMOND, Va. - Graduate Student
Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado has been named to the final ITA National Rankings of the 2021-22 season, the organization announced Wednesday.
Â
Diaz-Delgado finished with a ranking of no. 47 in the ITA Singles Top 125. This ranking follows a historic NCAA Tournament run for the Almeria, Spain native.
Â
Diaz-Delgado capped off an already extraordinary career by becoming the first VCU Women's Tennis player ever to advance to the NCAA singles semifinals. During this historic stretch Diaz-Delgado defeated four nationally ranked opponents including a dominant 6-1,7-6(8) victory over no. 36 Michaela Bayerlova (Wash. State) in the National Quarterfinal.
Â
This was the second NCAA Tournament run of Diaz-Delgado's VCU career; she advanced to the singles round of 16 in 2019. The graduate student concluded her career with 118 singles victories, good for second-most in school history. With her second NCAA Tournament run she has become the fourth player in program history to claim two ITA All-America honors and the first since 2005.
