VCU senior Makayla McGowan set a PR of 51.83m in the discus at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds Saturday afternoon, good for 16^thplace. Her mark, a 0.75m improvement of her previous personal best, moves her to second all-time at VCU in the event.
 
The meet marks McGowan's final competition of her historic career for the Black and Gold. A three-time Atlantic 10 individual champion and five-time team champion, McGowan holds school records in the indoor shot put and weight throw and has collected four Atlantic 10 all-academic honors. She finishes the season ranked first in both the shot put and discus in the Atlantic 10.
