RICHMOND, VA - Charles and Maxence Bertimon defeated Cal's No. 28 ranked pairing of Carl Emil Overbeck and Yuta Kikuchi in the round of 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championships Wednesday evening at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois.

Overbeck and Kikuchi jumped out to an early advantage claiming a 3-2 lead in the first set before weather pushed the match inside. After the reset, Charles and Max would surge back from a 5-3 deficit to force a tiebreak. The VCU duo claimed a 7-5 tiebreak win to take the first set. This momentum would carry into the second set as the Bertimon brothers claimed a 3-1 advantage. Overbeck would make a comeback attempt but the VCU pairing would hold strong clinching a convincing 6-4 second set and a spot in the NCAA Quarterfinals

By advancing to the NCAA Quarterfinal Charles and Max Bertimon become the first VCU pairing to do so since 2012. The duo automatically earns ITA All-American honors by reaching this stage in the National Tournament. This marks the first All-American team honors for Charles and Max and the first for the program since 2012.

This will be the second meeting this season between the two pairings with the Bertimon brothers claiming the first matchup with a 7-6 (7-2) victory.
