RICHMOND, VA - Charles and
Maxence Bertimon defeated TCU's No. 1 overall seeded pairing of Jacob Fearnley and Luc Fomba in the round of 32 of the NCAA Doubles Championships Tuesday evening at the Khan Outdoor Tennis Complex in Champaign, Illinois.

Charles and Max jumped out to an early advantage claiming a 4-2 lead in the first set. Fearnley and Fomba would take one game back but the Bertimon twins would continue to command the court claiming a 6-3 first set victory. The TCU pairing would make a fierce comeback taking the second set 6-2, leading to a final and deciding third set tiebreak. The Bertimon brothers controlled the action throughout, clinching the match with a 10-7 tiebreak victory.

With this victory Charles and Max advance to the Round of 16, the first VCU pairing to do so since 2014. This is only the sixth defeat of the season for the Fearnley/Fomba pairing and the second against a nationally ranked opponent. The TCU duo entered the NCAA Doubles Championship as the No. 1 overall pairing in the nation.

Charles and Max Bertimon will face Carl Emil Overbeck and Yuta Kikuchi (California) for a spot in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship. The VCU pairing would be the first to reach the Quarterfinal stage in the tournament since Antoine Baroz and Alexis Heugas achieved the feat in 2012.
