HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VCU and Duquesne both got off to a slow start as the Dukes held a slim 2-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Dawar made six saves in the quarter to keep VCU close
- The Dukes took a 3-0 lead before VCU responded with three of the next four goals and Marosi's goal tied the game 4-4 at halftime
- Duquesne scored the first three goals out of halftime but the Rams responded with three unanswered goals of their own and Casey Murray tied the game at 7-7 with 25 seconds left in the third quarter. Duquesne scored quickly off the ensuing draw to lead 8-7 heading into the fourth
- The Dukes again pushed their lead to a two-goal margin at 9-7 with 13:01 left but Slack's goal jumpstarted VCU's offense as the Rams outscored Duquesne 6-1 to end the game
- Slack's goal with 5:26 remaining was the go-ahead goal to make it 11-10 and VCU held Duquesne scoreless for the final 7:21 of the game
