RAMS DOWN COLONIALS, ADVANCE TO A-10 SEMIFINALS

The Short Story: VCU and George Washington were tied 45-45 with 3:07 remaining but a Sarah Te-Biasu 3-pointer and Chloe Bloom jumper capped off a 6-0 run that allowed the Rams to pull away for the win.
 
OPENING TIP:
  • Taya Robinson scored 19 points, including 15 in the second half, on 8-of-15 shooting. Robinson also added six rebounds, three assists and two steals
  • Sarah Te-Biasu had 17 points and went 3-of-6 from 3-point range
  • Chloe Bloom added 7 points and five rebounds. All of Bloom's seven points came in the fourth quarter
  • VCU shot 41.2 percent from the floor and 46.2 percent from 3-point range while limiting the Colonials to 32.7 percent shooting overall and 31.8 percent from deep
  • The Colonials were led by Sheslanie Laureano who scored 15 points

HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • VCU and George Washington both got off to a slow start offensively, but the Rams held an 11-9 lead after the first quarter
  • The Colonials went on a 13-5 run beginning midway through the second quarter to take 25-19 lead with 1:05 left before halftime. Taya Robinson scored on a jumper with just over a second remaining to cut the VCU deficit to 25-21 at the half
  • The Colonials led 28-23 with 6:52 left in the third quarter but the Rams went on a 13-3 run capped off by a Robinson layup to give the Rams a 36-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter
  • Bloom started the fourth quarter with a layup to push VCU's lead to 38-31 with 9:28 remaining but the Colonials went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 40-40 with 6:37 remaining
  • There were three ties and three lead changes in the quarter and VCU took full control of the game after Te-Biasu's 3-pointer with 1:52 remaining. The basket gave the Rams a 49-45 lead and after Bloom's layup on the next possession, VCU prevented a GW rally to take the win

VCU advanced to the A-10 Semifinals to face No. 1 seed Dayton at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 on CBS Sports Network. The A-10 Championships are being held in Wilmington, Del. at the Chase Fieldhouse.
