The Short Story: VCU trailed La Salle 12-7 with 9:20 left in the fourth quarter before scoring four unanswered goals to get within 12-11 with 1:59 left. The Rams were unable to complete the comeback as the Explorers won the ensuing draw control and ran out the clock.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• VCU outshot the Explorers 9-8 in the first quarter but trailed La Salle 5-3 after the first 15 minutes
• The second quarter was a defensive battle with Meghan Dawar making four saves. La Salle and VCU each scored twice in the quarter and the Rams trailed 7-5 at halftime
• The Rams cut the deficit to 8-7 with 5:11 remaining in the third quarter on a goal from Kash but La Salle responded with four answered goals to push its lead to 12-7 with 9:20 left in the fourth quarter
• VCU held La Salle scoreless for the final 9:20 of the contest and got within 12-11 with 1:59 remaining after back-to-back goals from McDonnell
• The Rams were unable to regain possession on the ensuing draw and the Explorers held off the Rams
