The Short Story: VCU held a 4-2 early in the second quarter but the Phoenix scored eight unanswered goals to retake the lead and held the Rams off for the win.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The two teams were locked into a defensive battle early as Elon took a 2-0 lead with 6:17 left in the first quarter
• VCU scored four unanswered goals capped off by Mia George's with 14:39 left in the second quarter to give the Rams a 4-2 lead
• The Phoenix prevented the Rams from scoring the rest of the half while scoring six goals of their own to lead 8-4 at halftime
• Elon pushed its lead to 10-4 with 7:30 remaining in the third quarter and VCU was unable to overcome the deficit, getting no closer than four goals for the remainder of the contest
