The Short Story:Â Senior
Courtney Higgins set a school record in the pentathlon as the Rams picked up two medals and qualified several athletes to the finals of their respective events on day one of the Atlantic 10 Championships. VCU sits in fifth in the team standings with 22 points heading into the final day of competition.

SPRINTS/HURDLES
- Juniors Lauryn Freeman (8.58) and SyVanna Metcalfe (8.73) qualified to the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying in second and fifth, respectively
- Sophomore Lauryn Taylor set a personal best in the 60-meter dash to qualify in second to the finals. Her time of 7.53 ties for third all-time at VCU. Freeman doubled back to qualify in sixth in the event, setting a personal best of 7.67
- Taylor returned to the track for the 200, running 24.63 to qualify for the finals in second. Sophomore Simone Pierre qualified in fourth in 25.02
- Pierre set a personal best of 55.93 in the 400 to qualify for the finals in first, breaking the 56-second barrier for the first time. Sophomore Karah Moore clocked 58.09 to qualify in seventh for the final
- Junior Yasmine Silmon qualified to the finals of the 500 in seventh place, setting a personal best of 1:16.94

MULTIS
- Higgins racked up 3629 points in the pentathlon, collecting bronze and breaking her own school record in the event. Sophomore Jailah Channer placed fifth. Higgins and Channer combined for 10 points

JUMPS
- Pierre finished her busy day with a seventh-place finish in the long jump, picking up two points for the Rams

THROWS
- Sophomore Eryn Byrd led a trio of Rams in the weight throw, grabbing bronze with a personal best of 17.87m. Freshman Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir placed sixth (17.38m), and senior Makayla McGowan placed eighth (17.18). Byrd's mark places her third all-time at VCU in the event. The Rams picked up 10 points in the event
