ODU'S BIG THIRD QUARTER DOOMS RAMS IN ROAD LOSS

The Short Story: The Rams struggled offensively in the third quarter as ODU went on a 24-6 run and turned VCU's narrow halftime lead into an insurmountable deficit.

OPENING TIP: 
  • Timaya Lewis-Eutsey scored a career-high nine points, going 4-of-9 from the floor
  • Janika Griffith-Wallace scored nine points along with tying for a team-high five rebounds
  • Nine different Rams scored in the game
  • ODU outscored VCU 23-7 in points off turnovers. VCU committed 20 turnovers while ODU had15
  • The Rams shot 35.4 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent from 3-point range while the Monarchs were 43.6 percent from the field and 46.7 percent from deep
  • ODU was led by Amari Young who scored a game-high 17 points
     
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • VCU committed just two turnovers in the first quarter and went 7-of-11 at the free throw line to build a 16-14 lead
  • The second quarter was back-and-forth, with the Rams first going on a 9-4 run to take a 25-18 lead with 3:23 left before halftime. ODU went on a 7-0 run to tie the game at 25-25 before a Jennifer Ezeh layup gave the Rams a 27-25 advantage at the half
  • ODU shot 73.3 percent in the third quarter to VCU's 22.2 percent while outscoring the Rams 16-5 in points off turnovers. The Monarchs outscored VCU 24-6 in the third quarter
  • VCU, despite outscoring ODU in the fourth quarter, was unable to climb back into the game
