TURNOVERS PLAGUE VCU IN LOSS AT ECU

The Short Story: VCU turnovers allowed ECU to build an early lead that the Pirates never relinquished.

OPENING TIP: 
  • Timaya Lewis-Eutsey scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds to lead the Rams
  • Mary-Anna Asare also scored eight points along with four rebounds
  • VCU shot 42.5 percent from the floor while ECU shot 42.1 percent
  • The Rams were just 1-of-11 from 3-point range while the Pirates were 7-of-16. ECU came into the game shooting just 17.7 percent from deep
  • ECU outscored VCU 31-10 in points off turnovers. The Rams committed 30 turnovers in the contest while the Pirates had 22
  • The Pirates were led by Danae McNeal who scored 17 points
     
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • ECU jumped out to a 27-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Pirates forced 11 VCU turnovers in the quarter and turned them into a 17-0 edge in points
  • VCU's offense settled in during the second quarter, shooting 54.5 percent from the field and holding the Pirates to 37.5 percent. The Rams trailed 45-29 at halftime
  • The third quarter was a defensive battle as ECU only outscored VCU 9-3
  • VCU outscored ECU 19-15 in the fourth quarter but the Rams were unable to threaten the Pirates down the stretch
