- Wisconsin jumped out to an early 21-10 lead at the end of the first quarter, outscoring the Rams 14-0 in second chance points
- VCU stormed back in the second quarter, using a 13-0 run to take a 23-21 lead on a Te-Biasu layup with 4:58 reamining
- Overall, the Rams outscored Wisconsin 26-12 in the quarter and led 36-33 at halftime
- In the third quarter, VCU pushed its lead to 50-41 after a 6-0 run capped off by a Griffith-Wallace layup. The Rams led 55-46 heading into the final 10 minutes
- VCU held its largest lead of the game after a Harris free throw put the Rams up 64-49 with 6:52 remaining
- Wisconsin attempted to climb back into the game but never got closer than six points as the Rams went 10-of-14 at the free throw line to seal the win
