GEORGIA PULLS AWAY LATE TO BEAT VCU

The Short Story: In a game marred by five Georgia ejections, the Rams struggled offensively in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs pulled away late for the win.

OPENING TIP: 
  • Sarah Te-Biasu scored a career-high 25 points, shooting 7-of-14 from the floor. She also added four assists and two steals along with only two turnovers
  • Grace Huston scored a career-high 13 points, going 3-of-4 from 3-point range and shooting 4-of-5 overall from the field
  • VCU shot 37.2 percent from the floor while Georgia shot 46.4 percent
  • The Rams committed 25 turnovers to Georgia's 12. The Bulldogs held a 21-12 edge in points off turnovers and a 16-5 advantage in second chance points
  • The Bulldogs were led by Alisha Lewis who had a team-high 16 points
     
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • VCU and Georgia went back-and-forth in the first quarter with the Rams holding a 10-9 lead with 3:06 left in the first quarter after a Hutson layup
  • On the ensuing possession, Georgia committed an offensive foul before five technical fouls were issued, four on the Bulldogs including four Georgia disqualifying fouls. The Rams were awarded eight free throws and went 7of-8 from the line to lead 17-9
  • The Rams led Georgia 24-16 heading into the second quarter
  • Georgia outscored the Rams 19-9 in the second, shooting 53.3 percent to the Rams' 36.4 percent. VCU trailed 35-33 at the half
  • The Rams tied the game at 39-39 on a Hutson 3-pointer but the Bulldogs went on an 11-3 run to lead 50-42 lead with 1:17 left in the third. At the end of the run, a fourth Georgia player was assessed a technical and disqualifying foul. The Rams went 1-of-2 at the line and cut the deficit to 50-43
  • VCU went just 2-of-11 from the floor in the fourth quarter while Georgia was 6-of-13, allowing the Bulldogs to pull away for the win
