RAMS FALL IN OVERTIME TO TRIBE

Final Score: William & Mary 66, VCU 61

The Short Story: VCU trailed 48-38 in the fourth quarter but used a 14-2 run to take a 52-50 lead with 1:11 remaining on a Grace Hutson 3-pointer. William & Mary then forced overtime on a made layup with 0.9 seconds left and then led for the final 4:15 of overtime to win.

OPENING TIP: 
  • Sarah Te-Biasu scored a team-high 19 points and added a career-high five steals and five assists
  • Chloe Bloom was the only other Ram in double figures with 10 points and seven rebounds She was 5-of-10 from the floor
  • Janika Griffith-Wallace had nine points and grabbed a team-high eight boards
  • Overall, VCU held a 35-31 advantage in rebounds over the Tribe
  • The Rams shot 39.7 from the field while William & Mary shot 42.4 percent for the game
  • The Rams had 18 turnovers to the Tribe's 15. William & Mary led 21-14 in points off turnovers
  • The Tribe was led by Riley Casey who scored a game-high 25 points
     
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
  • The Rams used the paint to their advantage in the first quarter, scoring all of their points via layups, to hold a 14-12 lead over the Tribe
  • VCU capped off a strong first half when Te-Biasu hit a 3-pointer with 47 seconds left in the second quarter as the Rams led 30-26 at halftime
  • The Tribe outscored the Rams 18-8 in the third quarter as William & Mary shot 43.8 percent from the floor while VCU went cold, shooting just 26.7 percent
  • The Rams staged a furious rally in the fourth quarter, going on a 14-2 run that began with a Te-Biasu layup and was capped off by Hutson's 3-pointer with 1:11 remaining. The Rams led 52-50 at that point
  • After each team had an empty possession, the Tribe's Casey hit a driving layup with 0.9 seconds left on the clock to force overtime tied 52-52
  • In the overtime period, Bloom scored the first bucket to put VCU up 54-52. The Tribe then answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead for good
