The short story: Senior outside hitter Jovana Vukcevic hit .440 to spark VCU's offense and lead the Rams to a sweep of Saint Louis Saturday night at the Siegel Center.

OPENING VOLLEY
  • Vukcevic, a First Team All-Atlantic 10 Conference selection last season, produced 12 kills and added five blocks to complete perhaps her best weekend of the season
  • Senior outside hitter Qairo Bentley supplied a team-high 14 kills for VCU, while hitting .278 with 15 digs and a pair of blocks
  • Sophomore outside hitter KIalah Jefferson added 11 kills and 14 blocks for the Black and Gold, while junior middle blocker Jasmine Knight chipped in with a match-high six blocks
  • Delaney Rice led all players with 15 kills for Saint Louis
THE DIFFERENCE
  • VCU hit .268 in the match, compared to Saint Louis' .140 mark. The Rams also owned a 66-54 edge in digs and a 9-6 advantage in blocks
  • Bentley helped lift VCU in the critical second set with six kills on 14 swings. She and Knight combined on a double block to stave off set point and knot the frame at 25-25. Vukcevic followed with a pair of kills as the Rams eventually edged out a 28-26 win
  • VCU held the Billikens under a .200 hitting percentage in each of the three sets
  • Bentley spiked kills on two of the final three points of the match as VCU turned a 22-all tie into a 25-22 victory
NOTABLE
  • Bentley, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week, averaged 5.00 kills, 3.38 digs and 0.88 blocks per set, while hitting .280 in two matches against Saint Louis this weekend
  • VCU has won a season-high three straight matches
  • The Rams have won 10 of 12 in this series
NEXT UP
VCU will host second-place Davidson on Tuesday, Oct. 25 at 5 p.m. at the Stuart C. Siegel Center. The Rams and Wildcats have met once previously this season. Davidson scored a hard-fought 3-2 victory in that contest at Belk Arena on Oct. 4.
