The Short Story: Sophomore Lauryn Freeman shined as the Rams opened their season in Lexington Saturday

SPRINTS

Freeman qualified to the 60-meter dash finals, where she placed third and nabbed a new personal best of 7.80
Junior SyVanna Metcalfe finished seventh in the 200-meter dash
Benita Amouzou and Courtney Higgins placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 400-meter dash
The Rams' relay team of Karah Moore, Yasmine Silmon, Simone Pierre, and Metcalfe won the 4x400-meter relay

HURDLES

Freeman continued her strong day with a win in the 60-meter hurdles. Her time of 8.63 tied her personal best in the event. Sophomore Jailah Channer finished eighth

DISTANCE

Kasandra Aulenbach secured a runner-up finish in the mile with a time of 5:17.69
Freshman Cassidy Guyton placed third in the 3000-meter run with a time of 10:44.35, while sophomore Kristen Wheatley placed seventh

JUMPS

Junior Dasia Mayo placed third in the high jump, while freshman Nayome Shipp followed in fourth in her collegiate debut
Senior Amari Jackson placed third in the long jump, securing a personal-best leap of 5.27m in the sixth and final round. Sophomore Raquel Hawkins finished fourth with a mark of 5.21, also a personal best

UP NEXT

VCU travels to Lynchburg, Va. to compete in the Brant Tolsma Invitational, hosted by Liberty University. The three-day meet begins Thursday, Jan. 20 at 12 p.m.
