HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior center back Lana Golob got her head to a second ball off a corner kick in the 20th minute, then nearly put the rebound away before her second shot was blocked.
- Jerabek tested Monarchs goalkeeper Kasey Perry from distance in the 39th minute, forcing a save at the bottom left corner.
- The Chesterfield, Va., product opened the scoring in the 43rd minute, driving a free kick from just inside the sideline on the left flank into the box, where it took a deflection into the net. The goal was officially scored an own goal.
- VCU doubled its lead in the 50th minute when Jerabek cut inside a defender and delivered an inch-perfect cross to Kershner at the penalty spot, where she placed a cool first-time finish to the bottom left corner.
- In the 66th minute, sophomore defender Natalia Santangelo intercepted a pass in the attacking third, took her first touch around a defender, and curled a shot just over the bar from 20 yards out.
- Young made her best save of the night in the 83rd minute, reacting quickly to dive to her left and stop a deflected cross from finding the net.
QUOTING HEAD COACH LINDSEY MARTIN
"Tonight was another hard-fought game on the road. Both teams created some decent chances, but we were clinical when we needed to be. Emma's goal from Sammy, in particular, was so well executed. Credit to our backs and Grace as well for a clean sheet. ODU is a very direct team so we had to deal with a lot of loose balls and runners over the top. I thought our back four handled it very well."
