Hokie Invite

Location: Blacksburg, Va. (BURROWS-BURLESON TENNIS CENTER)
The Short Story: VCU Women's Tennis had a strong start to the fall season at the Hokie Invite this weekend. Four members of the team (Gabriela Davidescu, Yelizaveta Karlova, Shivani Manjanna, and Anja Draskovic) competed over three days in Blacksburg, Va. and held an combined overall record of 13-6 including singles and doubles.

OPENING SERVE

• The round of 16 got off to a great start with four wins between doubles and singles
• Senior Shivani Majanna accumulated a 4-0 singles record for the tournament and won the Hokie Singles (Indoor) flight
• Freshman Yelizaveta Karlova reached her flight finals, finishing second in her first tournament as a member of the Black and Gold
• After an opening round loss, Junior Gabriela Davidescu was able to win three-straight matches including her consolation final against Nina Stankovska (PSU)
• The doubles pairing of Manjanna/Karlova also had a successful weekend making into their flight finals before falling to Nord/Nikopoulou (JMU)

Battle In The Bay Classic

Location: San Francisco, Calif.
The Short Story: Opening weekend for VCU Women's Tennis continued its hot start with an excellent showing at the Battle in the Bay Classic. Graduate Students Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado and Nina Sorkin both made the trip to compete in the event. Over the three days they held an overall record of 6-4 between singles and doubles.

OPENING SERVE

• The opening tournament for the Diaz-Delgado/Sorkin doubles pairing got off to a great start with an opening round victory against Qiu/Gamracy (San Francisco)
• Graduate Student Nina Sorkin followed an opening round loss with a competitive win against Megan Forster (Colorado) in the back draw
• Graduate Student Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado followed two opening round wins with a quarterfinal triumph against number two seeded Lisa Zaar (Pepperdine)
• Diaz-Delgado would continue her tournament success with a match win against Morgan Coppoc (UGA) in the semifinal before falling in the final to Savannah Broadus (Pepperdine)
