SEGNINI NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR, EXPOSITO DIAZ-DELGADO EARNS MOST OUTSTANDING PERFORMER

RICHMOND, Va. ­– VCU Women's Tennis Head Coach Vivian Segnini was named Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, while senior Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado earned Most Outstanding Performer in the postseason awards announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
 
In her first year at the helm, Segnini led VCU to its third straight conference title and a 17-5 record.
 
Exposito Diaz-Delgado added to her extraordinary colligate career during her senior campaign. The Almeria, Spain native tallied a 16-4 singles record and a 13-9 doubles mark. She totaled a 14-match singles win streak from Feb. 20 to May 1. After guiding the team to a third championship, the senior earned her second-consecutive NCAA Singles Tournament bid.
 
In addition to taking the conference's top performer honor, Exposito Diaz-Delgado was selected to the A-10 First Team and earned All-Academic reckognition for the first time in her career.
 
Freshman Alessia Ciuca and sophomore Luminita Tutunaru joined Exposito Diaz-Delgado on the first team while sophomore Gabriella Davidescu and graduate Noumea Witmus earned second-team honors.
 
Ciuca's first-team selection caps off her stellar freshman campaign. The Timisoara, Romania native collected 10 singles wins and was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week four times during the season.
 
Tutunaru was named to the top team with a 7-12 singles record competing primarily in the Rams' No. 2 position this season. 
 
Davidescu earns second-team honors after finishing the year with a 10-9 singles record and a 10-7 doubles mark. The sophomore clinched the conference title with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Richmond freshman Polina Shitkova.
 
Witmus lands on the second team in back-to-back years after being selected following the 2018-19 season. The graduate logged a 13-6 singles record and a 13-9 doubles record with Exposito Diaz-Delgado. The pairing made consistent appearances in the ITA Doubles Rankings, currently occupying 73rd position.
