WOMEN’S TENNIS ADDS YELIZAVETA KARLOVA TO SIGNING CLASS

RICHMOND, Va. – VCU Women's Tennis has signed Yelizaveta Karlova to its 2021-22 class, head coach Vivian Segnini announced on Monday.

She will be eligible to compete in the 2021 fall season.

A native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, Karlova has reached No. 119 in the ITF Juniors Rankings.

"I chose VCU because it provides everything that I'm looking for, a great coaching staff and a top-ranked university, she said. "I am sure that I will have a great time and grow a lot. I'm very motivated and can't wait to be a part of the VCU university and the team."

Karlova competed in the 2020 Australian Open Juniors Championship and reached the semifinal of the Orange Bowl 16-Under International Tennis Championship.

In addition, Karlova won the Kazakhstan Adult's Doubles Championship and was ranked No. 3 in the Asian Tennis Federation's under-14 division.

"We are very excited to add Yelizaveta to our program," Segnini said. "She is a highly motivated individual and a great competitor and we believe that she will thrive in the collegiate environment. We look forward to working with her and helping her achieve all of her goals."

Karlova's signing is the second of VCU's 2021-22 class. Nina Sorkin, a transfer from Virginia Tech, will also join next seasons Rams' roster.
