HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Richmond opened the scoring off a penalty corner in just the second minute with Bongers scoring the goal
- VCU answered and tied the game at 1-1 just over a minute later as Wetzel scored off the insert from Maite Sturm and Svea Sturm with the stick stop
- The game became a defensive battle as Richmond outshot VCU 3-0 in the second quarter, but the teams went into halftime tied 1-1
- The Rams didn't allow a shot from Richmond for the entire second half or either overtime period, outshooting the Spiders 11-0 during that time but couldn't break the deadlock
- The teams went to a penalty shootout with Sasha Elliott stopping all but one of the Spiders' attempts as VCU won the shootout portion, 3-1
