The short story: Three VCU pitchers scattered nine hits and sophomore second baseman
Michael Haydak drove in a pair of runs to lead the Rams to victory in their weekend finale.

FIRST PITCH
- Haydak registered a 2-for-4 effort at the plate out of the leadoff spot for VCU
- Senior first baseman Steven Carpenter also registered a 2-for-4 day and drove in VCU's first run of the game with bouncer deep into the hole between third and short in the third inning
- In all, four Rams recorded two hits, including freshman right fielder Cooper Benzin and senior catcher Josh Simon
- Â Freshman lefty Tyler Davis earned the win in relief for the Black and Gold. He threw four scoreless frames. He limited the Flames to two base hits and struck out three
- Starter Mason Delane allowed one run in four innings of work for VCU
THE DIFFERENCE
- VCU struck first in the third inning and led the rest of the way. Benzin led off with a bunt single and advanced to third on a groundout and a wild pitch. Carpenter's infield single moments later handed the Rams a 1-0 advantage. The next batter, junior designated hitter Liam HIbbits, slapped a ball into left field to drive home VCU's second run
- The Rams built a 4-1 cushion in the fourth when Haydak roped a two-out single to left with runners on second and third
- Davis allowed one runner past first base
- VCU pitching issued one walk in the gameÂ

- Haydak has recorded 10 multi-hit games this season and now ranks second on the team with a .337 average. He's registered multiple hits in four of his past five games
- Davis improved to 5-1 in nine appearances this season. He has also recorded two savesÂ
