Tyler Locklear homered, doubled and reached base five times, while VCU clubbed four home runs on the way to victory Friday.
Â
FIRST PITCH
- Locklear was officially 2-for-2 at the plate and hit his 14th home run of the year, a two-run shot to center in the fifth. He also walked twice and was hit by a pitch. He scored four runs and drove in three
- VCU freshman shortstop Connor Hujsak turned in a 2-for-4 effort. He hit his second home run of the year, a two-run blast down the left field line, in the eighth
- Junior left fielder Jack Schroeder homered and registered a 2-for-4 day at the plate for the Rams. He drove in three runs
- VCU hit four home runs in the game, including junior catcher Hunter Vay's first of the season
- Graduate transfer Bradford Webb started and tossed five innings of one-run ball to improve to 2-1 this season for the Black and Gold. He allowed four hits and struck out seven WildcatsÂ
THE DIFFERENCE
- VCU smacked 11 hits in the game. The Rams only failed to score in the second and sixth innings
- Locklear staked VCU to first-inning lead when he ripped a double off the fence in left center that scored sophomore second baseman Michael Haydak. The Rams added another run a short time later on a Davidson throwing error
- The Rams extended their lead to 6-1 in when Schroeder and Vay hit back-to-back homers on consecutive pitches in the bottom of the third
NOTABLE
- Locklear's 14 home runs are the fourth-most in school single-season history, and are the most by a Ram since Darian Carpenter hit 15 in 2017 – in 57 games
- Haydak has reached base in 15 consecutive games
- Webb's outing was his longest as a Ram, and his seven strikeouts are a season-high
NEXT UP
