The short story: VCU broke out the bats again Sunday, registering 14 hits on the way to its fifth straight game with 10 or more runs in an 18-7 win at VMI.

FIRST PITCH
- VCU freshman third baseman Tyler Locklear homered for the third straight game and finished his day 4-for-6 with four RBIs
- Junior designated hitter Liam Hibbits continued his hot start to the 2021 campaign with a 3-for-5 day Sunday. He drove in a pair for the Rams
- Junior centerfielder Hogan Brown blasted a three-run homer and turned in a 2-for-5 effort at the plate for the Black and Gold. He also scored twice and stole a base
- Sophomore righty Evan Chenier earned the win for VCU with three innings of scoreless relief. He scattered three hits and struck out two
THE DIFFERENCE
- The Rams broke the game open with eight runs in the top half of the fourth and never looked back. Brown tied the game at 4-4 when he launched his three-run blast to left center off of VMI reliever Ben Capehart. Locklear, the next batter, followed with a solo shot. A costly VMI outfield error with the bases loaded later brought home three Rams.
- Locklear and Hibbits provided RBI singles in the fifth inning as VCU extended its lead to 11-4
- VCU registered 14 his and drew 10 walks
- The Keydets hurt themselves with five errors defensively. Ten of VCU's 18 runs were unearned

- The Rams have won four straight games
- VCU has scored 57 runs in its past five games. The Rams outscored VMI 45-17 in three games this week
- Locklear has hit five home runs in VCU's first 10 games this year. He hit one in 17 contests in 2020
- Hibbits has recorded four multi-RBI games this season
