THE SHORT STORY
Lana Golob's header in the 71st minute cut the deficit to one, but VCU Women's Soccer was unable to find the equalizer, falling 2-1 to George Mason Sunday afternoon in Fairfax, Va.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Trailing 2-0, Kershner sent a corner kick into the center of the Patriots' box. Golob elevated above a crowd of defenders and headed the ball over the outstretched arms of George Mason's senior goalkeeper Louisa Moser
- The Rams put considerable pressure on the Patriots' defense through the opening 20 minutes. VCU earned two corners in the 19th, but were unable to convert
- In the 36th minute, George Mason sophomore Grace Hotaling settled a goal kick and back-heeled the ball to senior Kayla Hamric who found Haakma out of position and launched a shot from well outside the box that found the back of the net
- Fourteen minutes into the second half, Patriots' senior Shannon Lee sent a free-kick to the front of the Rams' goal. The ball found pinballed around and was knocked across the line on a clear attempt by VCU defender Amber DiOrio
- Bagley dribbled around defenders in the 81st minute and fired a shot that was deflected wide by Moser's left foot
- VCU had a flurry of chances in the closing minutes, but were unable to tie the score
