The Short Story: VCU refused to cool off as senior Aliyah Newman as well as freshmen Nia McMillan, Karah Moore, Simone Pierre and Yasmine Silmon all had a hand in recording top-three finishes at the Brant Tolsma Invitational on Saturday. 
 
SPRINTS/HURDLES 
 

• In the 500m Silmon raced to a second place-finish with a time of 1:19.42
• Freshman Lauryn Taylor finished fourth in the 60m with a personal best mark of 7.62
• In her first 200m race as a Ram, Taylor recorded a time of 25.60 
• Pierre impressed in her first 400m appearance recording a fifth-place finish
• In the 60m Hurdles Sophomore Lauryn Freeman raced to a sixth place finish

 
JUMPS: 
 

• Newman soared past all competitors and claimed a first-place finish in the Triple Jump
• Raquel Hawkins bagged a fifth place finish in the Triple Jump
• In the High Jump freshman Alacia Myles and senior Courtney Higgins shared fourth-place with each recording a 1.60m leap

 
THROWS:
 

• Senior Makayla McGowan snatched sixth and eighth-place finishes in the Weight Throw and Shot Put respectively

 
RELAYS:
 

• Pierre, Silmon, McMillan, and Moore surged to third place in the 4x400 Relay posting a time of 3:56.24

 
 
UP NEXT: The Rams will travel to Lexington, Va. to compete in the VMI Classic on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13.
