FURIOUS VCU COMEBACK FALLS SHORT AT DAVIDSON

The Short Story: Freshman middle blocker Jasmine Knight exploded in the third set to spark a valiant VCU comeback attempt, but the Rams fell in five sets Saturday at Davidson.
 
OPENING VOLLEY
  • Knight blasted 14 kills in the match and hit .312 overall. She also registered five block
  • Sophomore Qairo Bentley and senior Paula Neciporuka, both outside hitters, converted 16 kills a piece for the Rams. Neciporuka also supplied a career-high 26 digs
  • Junior setter Dani Jo David led all players with 30 assists for the Black and Gold
  • On the back line, junior libero completed a busy weekend with 25 digs. She also served up a pair of aces
  • Davidson's Remi Lehnertz led all players with 18 kills
THE DIFFERENCE 
  • Davidson used a 6-1 burst in the fifth, keyed by a pair of Lauryn Albold blocks, to take a 12-9 lead it would not surrender
  • The Rams hit just .077 in the tiebreaker
  • VCU fell behind by two sets, but Knight spiked seven kills on nine swings to spur VCU to a 25-22 win in the third frame; VCU held Davidson to a .066 hitting percentage in that set
  • The Rams opened the fourth with a 4-0 run, punctuated with a David assist to Knight, and VCU never looked back on the way to a 25-19 victory
NOTABLE
  • The Rams tallied 11 total blocks in the match
  • VCU leads the all-time series 13-1 with Davidson
  • The Rams are now 49-4 against A-10 opponents since 2017
