Tyler Locklear ripped a go-ahead double, and the Rams' pitching staff combined to shut down Elon in Game Two, as VCU earned a doubleheader split Saturday at Elon.

GAME ONE RECAP – Elon 7, VCU 6
FIRST PITCH
- VCU freshman shortstop Connor Hujsak doubled, drove in a run and finished 2-for-4 at the plate
- Rams' senior starter Michael Dailey tossed 5.2 innings and scattered four hits. He allowed two runs and struck out four
- Junior left fielder Jack Schroeder hit 2-for-4 with a double and a single for VCU. He also scored a run
- Junior Liam Hibbits stroked a two-run, pinch-hit double for the Black and Gold
THE DIFFERENCE
- Elon's Anthony Galason hit a two-run, walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth to give the Phoenix the win
- Trailing by a run after three, VCU chipped away with a run in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead; Elon tied the game at three in the bottom of the sixth behind a pair of back-to-back RBI singles
- Hibbits broke a 3-3 tied in the top of the eighth when he drove the ball to left field for a two-run double. Hujsak scored Hibbits with a single to left center in the next at-bat for a 6-3 VCU lead
- Elon redshirt-freshman Willie Haven cut into the Rams' lead with a solo homerun to begin the bottom half of the eighth. The Phoenix tacked on another run later in the frame
- The Rams recorded nine hits in the game, including three doubles
GAME TWO RECAP – VCU 4, Elon 3
FIRST PITCH
- VCU pitchers did not allow an earned run in the game. Freshman left-hander Tyler Davis (1-1) earned his first collegiate win with four innings of one-hit relief. He fanned six and walked one
- Senior first baseman Steven Carpenter finished 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk for VCU
- Husjak was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored
THE DIFFERENCE
- Trailing 3-1 with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning, Carpenter stepped to the plate with two outs and drove a two-RBI single through the middle of the infield to tie the game
- In the next at bat, Locklear crushed a ball to deep left field to score Carpenter for the eventual game-winning run; Husjak began the two-out rally with an RBI single through the left side of the infield that drove in junior Hunter Vay
- Davis took the mound in the sixth inning and held the Phoenix scoreless for the remainder of the game
- VCU pitchers struck out eight and issued just three walks
