Devan Barnett blasted his first collegiate home run, and junior centerfielder
Hogan Brown collected three hits on the day, but VCU fell to UNC Wilmington in both ends of a doubleheader Sunday at Brooks Field.

GAME ONE RECAP – UNCW 4, VCU 1
FIRST PITCH
- Brown finished 2-for-3 and scored VCU's lone run. He also stole a base
- VCU freshman third baseman Tyler Locklear knocked an extra base hit for the second straight day. He tripled to right field in the top of the third inning to plate Brown
- Graduate transfer Bradford Webb tossed three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in his VCU debut. He struck out three and did not walk a batter
THE DIFFERENCE
- Brooks Baldwin led off the bottom of the first inning with a home run to right field. The Seahawks added another run a short time later on a wild pitch for a 2-0 lead
- Wilmington extended its advantage to 4-1 in the bottom of the third following an RBI triple by Kip Brandenberg and a sacrifice fly from Trevor Marsh
- The Seahawks limited the VCU offense to four hits, and UNCW did not walk a batter in the game

FIRST PITCH
- Barnett went 2-for-4 and drove in three in the nightcap for the Black and Gold
- Sophomore designated hitter Logan Amiss was also credited with a pair of base hits for the Rams and finished 2-for-5
- Sophomore shortstop Michael Haydak drove in a pair for VCU
THE DIFFERENCE
- Barnett gave VCU a 5-3 lead with a two-out, two-run double to right in the top of the fourth
- VCU's lead was short-lived, however. Wilmington answered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning, keyed by Baldwin's double to right center that plated two. The Seahawks tacked on one run in the fifth and two more in the eighth
- Adam Smith held the Rams in check with 3.1 hitless innings to close out the game. He struck out three and walked two
- UNCW logged a 12-hit attack in the game. The Rams were also hurt by three unearned runs

VCU will continue its road swing with a three-game set at Elon Feb. 26-28. First pitch on Friday, Feb. 26 is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Latham Park.
