THE SHORT STORY
VCU Women's Soccer downed East Carolina, 3-1 behind a pair of goals from redshirt-junior Emma Kershner and sophomore Anna Bagley Saturday afternoon at Sports Backers Stadium.

QUICK FACTS
  • Kershner's penalty kick goal marked the first of the season for the midfielder. Kershner recorded five goals in 2019-20
  • Bagley's goal also marked her first of the season
  • The Rams outshot the Buccaneers by a nine to six margin. Both teams put four shots on goal
  • VCU's offensive aggression forced 12 East Carolina fouls
  • The Rams improve to 1-1-1 all time against the Buccaneers

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU put pressure on the East Carolina defense throughout. In the eighth minute, redshirt junior Samantha Jerabek sent a cross from the right side into the middle of the East Carolina box. The Buccaneers back line misplayed the ball and tallied an own goal giving the Rams an early 1-0 advantage
  • In the 20th minute, Kershner sliced through the East Carolina defense and was taken down in the box. The redshirt junior was awarded and converted on a penalty kick to extend the VCU lead
  • With the Rams leading 2-1 in the 76th minute, Bagley settled a Buccaneers clear attempt, sidestepped an East Carolina defender and fired a shot into the back left corner of the goal
WHAT'S NEXT
The Rams will be back at Sports Backers Stadium on Thursday night at 6 p.m. against William & Mary. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.
