THE SHORT STORY: VCU trailed La Salle 62-59 with just under two minutes remaining in overtime before Taya Robinson knocked down a pair of free throws and Madison Hattix-Covington converted a fast-break layup to secure the Rams' victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU struggled offensively early, committing six turnovers in the first quarter and trailed La Salle 15-13
  • The Rams find a rhythm and shot 58.3 percent in the second quarter while limiting the Explorers to shoot 31.3 percent and taking a 31-27 lead into halftime
  • Te-Biasu opened the second half with a 3-point to give VCU a 34-27 lead but the Explorers slowly chipped away, outscoring VCU 17-9 for the rest of the quarter to retake a 44-43 lead going into the fourth quarter
  • With 5:57 remaining in the fourth quarter, La Salle clung to a 49-46 lead. VCU battled back with an 8-2 run that featured a pair of 3-pointers from Hattix-Covington and Te-Biasu to take a 54-51 lead with 2:57 left
  • The two teams couldn't find separation in regulation with neither side making a field goal in the final 2:56 of regulation and the game went to overtime
  • The lead changed hands three times during the overtime period but the Rams held the Explorers scoreless in the final 1:57 of overtime to win the game
