RAMS DOMINATE HAWKS ON SENIOR NIGHT

THE SHORT STORY:  Tera Reed and Taya Robinson combined for 30 points on their senior night to lead VCU past Saint Joseph's 64-49 Saturday night at the Seigel Center.

  • Reed dropped 14 points and tallied three rebounds

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was a defensive battle early as VCU forced six first-quarter turnovers but led only 9-8 after St. Joseph's held the Rams to 18.8 percent shooting from the floor
  • The teams traded baskets throughout the second quarter as VCU shot 57.1 percent from the floor and 40 percent from 3-point range but trailed 26-24 at the half
  • Trailing 30-27 early in the third quarter, the Rams went on a 14-2 run which was bracketed by 3-pointers from Robinson and Reed
  • VCU remained hot offensively in the fourth, the Rams shot 66.7% from beyond the arc and 50% from the floor in the final quarter
  • St. Joseph's cut the VCU lead to 57-49 with 1:32 remaining in the game, but the Rams closed it out with a 7-0 run and tallied a 15-point advantage when the buzzer sounded, their largest of the night
  • VCU led for over 30 minutes of the game and didn't trail for the final 18:29 of the contest
