THE SHORT STORY:Â A furious fourth quarter rally got VCU within 62-60 with 2:47 remaining after a 10-0 run. The Rams hung close and had a chance to tie the game trailing 65-62 with 22 seconds remaining but
Taya Robinson's 3-pointer just missed.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- VCU and Dayton were tied 11-11 with 5:41 left in the first quarter but a Taya Robinson jumpstarted an 11-4 run on a midrange jumper that gave the Rams a 22-15 lead heading into the second
- The Rams shot 50.0 percent from the floor in the first quarter while limiting Dayton to 33.3 percent
- VCU led 26-15 in the second quarter before a 16-2 run gave the Flyers a 31-28 lead with 3:20 left before halftime
- The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the half and VCU trailed just 35-33 at the break
- Dayton started the third quarter on a 10-0 run and shot 50.0 percent to build a 55-47 lead going into the fourt
- VCU trailed by as much as 62-50 with 8:16 remaining in the game but used a 10-0 run, capped off by a Robinson layup, to get back within a possession at 62-60.
- VCU held Dayton scoreless from the 6:59 mark until there were 33 seconds remaining when the Flyers went 1-of-2 at the free throw line to lead 65-62
- Robinson had a chance to tie the game but just missed a 3-pointer with 19 seconds left and Dayton went
