THE SHORT STORY: VCU led Saint Louis 40-34 heading into the fourth quarter but struggled offensively in the final 10 minutes, allowing Saint Louis to outscore the Rams 32-10 to take the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams struggled offensively in the first quarter with VCU shooting 15.4 percent and Saint Louis shooting 28.6 percent. VCU trailed SLU just 10-6 heading into the second quarter
  • The two teams battled and were tied 17-17 with 5:00 minutes remaining before halftime when VCU went on an 11-1 run to close the half and led 26-19
  • The Rams opened the second half with a 7-0 run, making it an 18-1 run overall, to push their lead to 31-19 with 7:57 remaining in the third quarter
  • Saint Louis outscored VCU 15-9 for the rest of the quarter to trim the deficit to just 40-34 heading into the fourth
  • The Billikens offense had a breakthrough in the fourth quarter, shooting 66.6 percent from the floor (10-of-15) and 3-of-3 from 3-point range. VCU struggled shooting just 31.3 percent (5-of-16) and 0-of-4 from 3-point range. The Billikens also went 9-of-11 at the free throw line
