THE SHORT STORY: After a slow start, VCU outscored GW 19-9 in the second quarter to take the lead for good and pulled away for win.

  • Taya Robinson scored a team-high 17 points and tied for the team-high with seven rebounds. She shot 7-of-15 from the floor and 3-of-7 from 3-point range

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • VCU had a slow start offensively, shooting just 3-of-12 from the floor in the first quarter while GW was 5-of-16 and held an 11-7 lead
  • The Rams offense came alive in the second quarter and started with a 6-0 run to give VCU a 13-11 lead on a Chloe Bloom layup
  • The two teams battled back-and-forth and were tied at 17-17 with 6:04 left before halftime when VCU's defense stifled the Colonials. The Rams allowed just one more GW field goal in the quarter, a 3-pointer, during a 9-3 run to close the half that gave the Rams a 26-20 lead at the break
  • VCU led 38-35 with 5:25 left in the third quarter when a Te-Biasu 3-pointer started a 7-0 run to push the Rams in front 45-35 with 2:48 left in the third
  • VCU led 51-41 at the start of the fourth quarter and shut down the Colonials offense again to pull away, forcing them to shoot 3-of-12 in the final quarter and only scoring nine points
