The short story: Freshman guard Jayden Nunn poured in 15 of his game-high 20 points in the second half and VCU forced a season-high 23 turnovers in a win over Jacksonville State Wednesday.
 
OPENING TIP
  • Nunn connected on 7-of-8 attempts from the field , including 2-of-3 from beyond 3-point range for the Black and Gold
  • Sophomore Ace Baldwin shined in his first game back from offseason surgery on his Achilles. The 6-foot-1 point guard poured in 13 points and tied a career high with six steals. He was 6-of-6 at the free throw line
  • Graduate forward Levi Stockard III contributed eight points and hauled in a team-high eight rebounds for VCU, while senior guard KeShawn Curry supplied 10 points
  • Jalen Gibbs led Jacksonville State with 12 points and four rebounds for the Gamecocks 
THE DIFFERENCE
  • A Stockard jumper at 13:29 left in the second half broke a 38-38 tie and began an 18-3 VCU run that included 12 points from Nunn and put the Rams in control 56-41 with just over four minutes remaining
  • The Rams began the game on a 16-3 run over the first six minutes of play, capped off by a Nunn steal and fast break layup
  • Jacksonville State returned off a timeout with a 12-3 run of their own powered by back-to-back two three-pointers
  • VCU forced six turnovers in the first five minutes of the second half, including a shot-clock violation, which led to a jumper from Nunn to put the Rams up five with 14:51 remaining

  • Ace Baldwin's six steals on the night tied a career high and are the most by a Ram this season
